Eye Pillows

Made eye pillows this week for my students to use in Savasana.  Brought them to my interview and was told that they probably would not be able to be used.  My interviewee stated "I will have to talk with 'corporate'...but probably not."  To that I replied "Seriously???!"  How lame.  20 eye pillows (stuffed with rice, fennel, and dried lavender) for the four of us here is a little much.  I may have to start an eye pillow shop on Etsy!!

GOOD JOB!!!

So this is what my husband and I woke up to this weekend:

M: Yup, put your foot right here.
I: There?
M: Yup! GOOD JOB!!! You did it!!!

As I become more awake and start to digest the conversation, I shoot out of bed and find myself greeted at our bedroom door by I. saying "I did it mommy!!  I got out!!"

Yes, folks, we are in new territory.  My almost two year old successfully escaped her crib with the assistance and guidance from her three year old sister.  Great.  I quickly moved on to another topic without praising her accomplishment in hopes that she would forget what just happened.

Date Night Along the Potomac

One of my favorite stores in Old Town, Decorium
The images are a little bit fuzzy because I lost my camera and had to supplement with the iphone.  We had a good time overall.  We enjoyed sunset on the Potomac as we traveled from Old Town to the National Harbor and back on a ferry taxi.  We enjoyed dinner at the Harbor and a nice walk through North Old Town then through Del Ray both ways totaling over 5 miles on foot (flip-flop).

Hooded Beach Towel

So we have all seen the super cute hooded towels in magazines.  I think that they are so cute that I had one ordered for my first daughter.  We even had her name embroidered on back-love it!  Then, when it was time for my second daughter to have a hooded beach towel, I decided to create it myself.  I bought a $6.99 beach towel from a nearby box store and some 40% off ribbon from the fabric store and began cutting and sewing.  The towel and ribbon are all put together, but it still needs her name.  Since I do not have an embroidery machine, I will have to have a local boutique do that part of the project.  Since we are celebrating her 2nd birthday on a lake with the theme of sailboats, I thought her own personalized hooded beach towel would be a great gift!
I cut the towel and created a hood and attached it to the center of the towel, then added ribbon to the side edges of the towel and around the hood.
My first daughter saw what I was doing for her sister and requested that her towel also have ribbon put on it.  This is the project I am working on now.

Annapolis and the Bay

We enjoyed ourselves in MD today.  We got to walk around main street, the harbor, and the Naval Academy.  The girls absolutely loved it.  We had a quick tour by my husband's mentor/friend on foot and then met up with him later for a tour of super fancy "private drive" houses  just steps from their own personal beaches.  We enjoyed seeing all the sailboats, jet skiers, and people kayaking (my new favorite thing).  The day ended with medicating our littlest one for a fever that we discovered after dinner.  Glad we enjoyed getting out today, because the sickness may keep us in the rest of the week.

Cheap Mini-Bedroom Makeover

So our bedroom design has nearly made me gag since we moved into our new house.  This is now the 5th bedroom I have had to decorate in our 8 years of marriage.  Each room always looks different according to the lighting, the shape, the color on the walls.  So I have had to adjust things along the way.  We had no money left to add to our room the other home purchases so I left it "as is", uninspiring and discouraging.  Hello 4th of July weekend sale at the fabric store!  I found fabric to revitalize our room totaling less than thirty dollars!  I sewed all week and this is what I came up with.  A bed skirt, four decorative pillows for the bed and two chair pillows for the Goodwill chairs I re-upholstered a couple years back.  Next stop...redoing the two side tables.

July 4th Weekend 2011

We had a pretty fun weekend.  We were able to go to a parade, ice cream on the boardwalk and fireworks in Old Town.  We tried giving the girls sparklers, my idea.  And quickly ended that after the girls both said "oh, hurts".  So worst idea of the month on my part.

I truly LOVE drummers in a marching band and of course who doesn't like bagpipers?  We actually wanted them for our wedding.  Here is my little one marching and playing her homemade horn made out of a light stick.
